Homeland security: could this be the truth at last?
In what looks dangerously like a piece of actual journalism from the New York Times, the stupendous waste and ineffectiveness of Department of Homeland Security procurement is laid bare.
To judge from the piece, it's really ugly. Corruption or incompetence of a high order is implicated.
The reaction from the responsible (!) House committee chairman is a Rummy-style poke in the eye:
"After 9/11, we had to show how committed we were by spending hugely greater amounts of money than ever before, as rapidly as possible," said Rep. Christopher Cox, R-Newport Beach (Orange County), who is the chairman of the Homeland Security Committee. "That brought us what we might expect, which is some expensive mistakes. This has been the difficult learning curve of the new discipline known as homeland security."
They're not even trying.
