Oxford University lets the side down on fair and balanced


Whatever you say about the accuracy of Wikipedia (and people have been saying plenty), at least it comes gratis.

The OUP's Dictionary of National Biography, on the other hand, costs £7,500 (that's $14,400 in real money [1]) - and, it seems, is stuffed with errors.

Now, dead-tree is preferable for many purposes - novels the clearest of examples. But there are some things you just need to be online.

  1. The sterling parity at nearly two bucks a pop? When is that going to start to hurt, I wonder?
