Eason Jordan: where's the beef?
Amidst the unedifying whooping, we're missing the most basic evidence of all: what the guy said.
So there's no tape available? (Not yet, at least.) The room was packed with hacks: why not some actual journalism?
Why no transcript? The much-vaunted qualities of the online medium are just the thing to capture variations in recollection, where recollections were supported by contemporaneous notes (some of the hacks present must have been taking notes, surely?), adding recollections of tone of voice, body language and the like.
As it is, we have a he said, she said on the scale of the Tower of Babel, mostly drowned out by the sound of axes grinding.
I'll be staying away, I think.
