Ronnie Earle: who is The Twelfth Man?
Having suggested (November 19) that Earle's career was a suitable case for actual journalism, I've found the odd bit of spadework producing one or two interesting lines of enquiry - let's see how those pan out...
But also one strange discrepancy of basic fact:
How many pols has he prosecuted for corruption or election law violations?
The Washington Post in July said it was 12 Democrats and four Republicans.
According to Media Matters, the March 6 El Paso Times said
11 of the 15 politicians he has prosecuted over the years were Democrats.
Was there an additional case between March and July? Is there an exhaustive list?
(I see here reference to a Houston Chronicle editorial of March 17 2003, which says that
During his long tenure, Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle has prosecuted many more Democratic officials than Republicans.
Is that high-quality weaselling (11/12 to 4 may be many more in percentage terms, but hardly as an absolute number!), ignorance, recklessness or what?)
