Scalia Raid case settled

An opportunity to nip the burgeoning police state in the bud gratuitously squandered!

The Associated Press (not, I suspect, often at the cutting edge of the fight to vindicate constitutional rights) and the Gannett-owned Hattiesburg American have rolled over, and decided to take a piffling settlement of their case against the US Marshals' illegal seizure of their reporters' tapes of one of Scalia's speeches (April 12).

The chance to see rubber-heel Melanie Rube and her bosses grilled on this affront has been traded for a grand total of $2,000 plus legal costs.
