Polls and party affiliation: the adjustment question


We're not big on polls round here. But, for future reference, let me note a couple of pieces - here and here - on the question whether polling results should be adjusted where the sample shows party allegiances different from those expected from those actually voting.

The CW amongst DEWDROPs is that failing to weight polls showing a majority of Republicans is kow-towing to the VRWC (apparently, in the 1996 and 2000 presidential elections, there were five and four point majorities respectively of Dems - in 1992, the numbers were tied). The pieces suggest there's a substantial question beyond mere partisan advantage.
