Air America oddities
Listening to Janeane Garofalo's programme, one or two things struck me as peculiar, for a Democratic activist type of show.
Both JG and her sidekick evidently thought Rep James Moran was Republican.
They went ballistic about the latest Kerry piece (Kerry Invoking 'Values' Theme to Frame Issues) from the New York Times' Jodi Wilgoren; which is fair enough, except that the main target for their ire was the quote
I'm optimis- tic about how America could live up to our values
Evidently, they thought Wilgoren was making fun of Kerry's delivery. Rather than this incorrect and unnecessary hypenation clearly being an artefact of the process whereby dead-tree copy (right-justified) is converted to HTML (ragged right - so no end-of-line hyphens). Happens all the time with news pieces.
And the sidekick ran a sub-Michael Moore stunt to provide Wilgoren with a parcel of amusements to fill the time otherwise used for writing just that sort of article on Kerry. He and some Ikettes went down to West 43rd Street - only to be told that Wilgoren was Chicago bureau chief, and therefore had no office at Gray Lady HQ.
(I allow for the possibility that this may have been the joke - a skit on Bush's lack of preparation for post-invasion Iraq, say. Somehow, I don't think it was.)
