Pew: surprise online news gender gap

A staggering number this - on page 20 of the report (PDF):
about threequarters of male college graduates under age 40 (74%) regularly go online for news, compared with just 45% of female college graduates in the same age category. That dwarfs the overall eight-point gender gap in regular Internet news use (33% vs. 25%).

A gender gap of 29 points is bizarre, counter-intuitive and unexplained. By comparison, the gender gap table on page 17 for various news sources shows a range of gaps between 10 points favouring men and 12 favouring women.
