The anti-smut fanatics at work

Jeff Jarvis flags an interesting LA Times piece (reprint) on Brent Bozell's Parents Television Council. They have around half a million Kyle's Moms, and they have 'Sonny Boy' Powell's attention:
In 2000, commissioners received 111 complaints about 101 shows. Last year, they fielded 240,350 complaints, most of them about only nine programs, all of which were targeted on the group's website.

No real surprises, but it's something to have one's fears confirmed by something approaching actual journalism.

(Jarvis has a story about a kid in a school play saying fucking - in the Bono/Golden Globes sense) at some unforeseen glitch in the production. But he bowdlerises the word.

And then links a piece on broadcasters applying self-censorship in fear of FCC action.

I don’t get it. What is it? Avant-garde?)
