A message from the Koran for Saint Tony's next sermon

Verse 101 of Surat 5:
Ask not about things which, if made plain to you, may cause you trouble.

All the trouble has been, you see, because we've failed to trust Tony. All that querying WMD intelligence, and where has it got us?

We need a re-education programme stat. The curriculum devised, perhaps, with the three mottos of the party in George Orwell's 1984 [1] in mind:
WAR IS PEACE

FREEDOM IS SLAVERY

IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH

No exegesis or anything of the sort intended (or, from me, even possible!); but the correspondence between that last motto and 5:101 is kind of spooky...

[Quote from a Salon extract from Craig Unger's book on Bush-Saudi links.]

  1. Etext here - not for US readers it seems. I trust your discretion.
