Excellent report-card piece on Colombia's Álvaro Uribe
Only one Latin American country at a time here! But worth just noting a piece in Semana of Bogotá which looks at Uribe's record in 2003 and prospects for 2004.
It reads well, just at the right level of generality, the ideas hang together: having got out of touch with Colombia, I'm lacking a feeling for the accuracy of the substance, but I like the style!
The verdict is pretty damning, and the prospects not good - though stagnation rather than disaster is in prospect.
Semana, I seem to remember, is fairly reliable for good stuff on Colombia. There are other turn-of-year pieces that look worth a squint.
